A board (or sun strip) is the tinted strip placed at the very top of the windshield. Many people install it to reduce sun glare or to give the car a sportier look.
But before you attach one to the inside of the windshield, it is good to understand an important concept: the AS1 line.
What is the AS1 line?
AS1 is a marking on the windshield from the car manufacturer that shows how far down tinting or decals may go without affecting the field of view of the driver.
It is usually located:
about 10–15 cm from the top of the windshield
marked with small dots or the text "AS1" in the glass
Everything above the AS1 line is considered an area where you can have a tinted strip or sun strip.
Everything below the line must be free of tint or decals, since that is where the most important field of vision for the driver is.
