Body model is what determines fit - not model year
What determines fit and dimensions is the body model, i.e. the car’s actual shape. In the shop, cars are therefore not listed by exact model year, but as a range of years during which that body was manufactured.
Example:
Body model: 2008-2016
Your car’s model year: 2012
In this case, you should select 2008–2016, even though 2012 does not appear as its own option in the menu. This means the car has the same body shape as all models manufactured between 2008 and 2016.
In some cases, a model year can fall right on the border between two different body generations. In such cases, it is especially important to find out whether your car has the older or the newer body.
Example:
Body model 1: 2008-2012
Body model 2: 2012-2020
Your car’s model year: 2012
In such cases, it is especially important to find out whether your car has the older or the newer body. Search online for pictures of the older and newer generation
- Compare details such as:
- front (headlights, grille)
- rear (taillights, shape)
- side profile (lines, doors, windows)
The differences are often visible right away when comparing pictures side by side.
